A personal insult

I think I may have overreacted. I don't know why. But I thought it was definitely an insult from a student.

Comments that student had given were e.g. " She told me that the color of the aqueous copper sulphate is blue. It should be green!" and " She needs to refer to a textbook to answer my questions."

For this smart alec, aqueous copper sulphate is indeed blue in color. Cu2+ is blue in color and sulphate ion which is not a an ion from a transition element has no color. If you need evidence, look at this text below, taken from www.chemguide.co.uk

Why is copper(II) sulphate solution blue?

If white light (ordinary sunlight, for example) passes through copper(II) sulphate solution, some wavelengths in the light are absorbed by the solution. Copper(II) ions in solution absorb light in the red region of the spectrum.
The light which passes through the solution and out the other side will have all the colours in it except for the red. We see this mixture of wavelengths as pale blue (cyan).

And do you expect a normal person to know and recall EVERYTHING from the book offhand? And what is wrong about referring to the textbook so as to confirm my answer and make sure I don't tell you the wrong thing?

Smart alec. I am angry for being so angry and upset over the comments from a smart idiot. I quit immediately.

Some youngsters think they are so smart. Don't bother about them.

Some students are just so full of themselves, I'm sure you did that too. Just not in front of the teacher's face.

But anyway, if that textbook did state that copper(II) sulphate solution is green, then it deserves to be thrown. The author has the colours all confused.

Copper(II) sulphate solution (or for that matter, the solid crystal) is blue. This is clearly evident by their more uncommon name of BLUE VITRIOL.

On the other hand, copper(II) CARBONATE is green. This is what makes the Statue of Liberty green. Perhaps the authors need to be made known of this little fact that I knew as a child.

Whatever...I just don't understand how come the student judges how good or bad a teacher is based on colors of compounds?! What the hell? So my effort in revising through the syllabus, preparing for their worksheets and notes are nothing compared to the knowledge of colors?! Bullshit.

Oh come on. Mark him next time? Find some subtle means to insult his oh-so-perfect work? I'm sure you and all other teachers have their own methods of dealing with such students. I have mine.

Haha...actually come to think of it, i think i might be pretty too stressed up on that day. But anyway I quit immediately on the same day. Lost quite a sum of income but I can survive on my pride for a while more....no worries.
